Bodegas San Prudencio![]() The winery has its origin in Clavijo a small village in La Rioja where you can view the ruins of San Prudencio Castle. It was here in Clavijo that the Saenz Lopez brothers used to get into an oak vat to clean it, and where their father made his own wine with love and care. This passion for wine, with them since childhood, inspired the hard work that it would take to make their dreams come true. Throughout the year we dedicate all our efforts and tenacity to looking after our vineyards, inherited from our ancestors. Our aim is to harvest top quality grapes to produce our wines. All of La Rioja’s most traditional varieties can be found in our vineyards: Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano. After a careful vinification the wines with the best qualities and characteristics are selected. They rest in French and American oak barrels for at least one year, from which they take on oak flavors and essences, until the moment that they reach the optimum character and quality for their classification. The owners, the brothers Saenz Lopez, play an essential role in the winemaking process, actively supervising the production and ageing of the wines, and leaving their personal stamp on every single bottle of Bodegas San Prudencio. They balance respect for the traditional ways of working, with a modern vision of La Rioja´s wines. Winemaker Ruben Sanz is the wine’s author. Just 31 years old, and one of the youngest enologists currently working in La Rioja, he has a very promising future. In such a traditional wine region as La Rioja, it is most unusual to find one so young, with such responsibility. Bodegas San Prudencio is proud that all of this effort and work has been recognized by the distinguished wine writer, Robert Parker, with his Wine Advocate awarding 90 points to our young wine in 2007. ![]() Rioja Alta wine (tradicional wine)Cueto is sourced from vineyards beneath Mount Cueto, around the village of Clavijo, place of birth of the brothers Saenz Lopez – hence the name. Production is very limited, and it is only produced in exceptional vintages. The complexity is achieved through the blending of our best Tempranillo with Garnacha from 100 year old vines, to produce a memorable wine. ![]() CONCLAVE ESENCIA Premium WineCónclave Esencia comes from vineyards especially selected by Bodegas San Prudencio. Situated in an area of very characteristic microclimate and soil, our over 40 years old vineyards, planted with Rioja´s most noble vaieties Tempranillo and Garnacha, receive the special care they deserve. With low yields of less than 3500 kg/ha, these magnificent vines gives us grapes of exceptional quality. Rigorous selection, adequate winemaking and 12 months of ageing in French oak barrels reveal the vineyards virtues and elegance, a persistent, elegant and nostalgic wine. Conclave Esencia, essentially “terroir”.Conclave Esencia preserves all its original structure and purity as the wine is not submitted to aggressive stabilisation treatments. For this reason, a natural sediment may appear. ![]() MALIZIA Ice wine Singular wineNew projects are imagined, are dreamed and some of them are gotten with hard work and effort.
